Relocation
"…Over the
bounding main"
An international move!
Although it's an adventure of a lifetime, a move overseas is
considerably stressful. It requires more planning and
preparation than a domestic move. Paperwork, packing,
research about your new country, all these activities call for
as much time as you can muster before you make the move.
Plan and prepare!
-
Be sure!
Educate yourself on what to expect.
Experts note that a large percentage of internationally
relocated workers return home within a year. It's worth
considering initially renting out your current home, just in
case long range plans don't work out.
-
Allow enough time.
The average international moving company requires a minimum of
four weeks notice to prepare for your move. But you
should allow more time than that for your preparation.
There's much to do!
-
Contact the
embassy in your new country.
Learn about your obligations as a resident (i.e. vaccinations,
visa requirements, etc.) Request helpful cultural facts,
and contact information about expatriate groups in the area.
They can give you information on neighborhoods, schools, other
families from your country, etc.
-
Finding the right
mover.
Research international moving companies via personal referrals
or the internet. Comparison shop their services;
get quotes; get references. Meet with your selected
mover a couple times before moving day to make sure you're all
on the same page.
When you get here,
you will find that the things you've heard about friendly
people in the Pacific Northwest are absolutely true.
While you are in the research process, feel free to contact us
to find out what areas might be the most comfortable for you.
By using us as your local connection, even before you move,
you can eliminate a great number of worries - and enjoy the
anticipation of a lifetime adventure!
