Relocation
Package Possibilities
"Picking up the
tab"
If yours is a job-related move, check into the relocation
packages your employer may have available. Planning
ahead and exploring your options will reduce possible stress
in this exciting time.
-
Larger companies
often include a real estate assistance component, where
the company will offer to purchase your old home at fair
market value if you don't sell it within 30 to 90 days.
Smaller companies may not always have the resources to make
the same offer. But go ahead and inquire.
-
Many companies will
pay all expenses to fly you and your family to your future
city on house hunting trips.
-
Temporary living
arrangements, until you find your new home or until it's
ready for move-in will often be picked up by employers.
-
Most likely, your
employer will pay for packing, shipping, unpacking and
storage expenses. Be sure to ask.
-
Talk to your
employer about possible reimbursement of closing costs.
-
Ask about
reimbursement of miscellaneous, out of pocket expenses:
carpet cleaning, drapery installation, vehicle registration
and other incidental costs.
-
To keep things
simple, many companies will pay a lump sum. This
covers the entire cost of a move, rather than reimbursing you
on an itemized basis. But before agreeing to this
contract, review it carefully to make sure it covers
everything you'll need.
When you have
decided where you are going to be living, the last thing you
want to do is get bogged down in the details of financing your
home mortgage. Give us a call, even before you get into
town, and we can begin the process of your approval. We
specialize in helping people make an important transition,
such as a relocation.
